Louise ten Hove – Mentor/DanceStep Supervisor/Pointe coordinator

Louise started dancing at 7 years old when Dance Effects was run in the Maeroa Hall. She became a teacher at the school with her own classes by the time she was 16 and purchased the studio from her dance teacher at 18. Louise’s many years in the industry from a dancer, teacher, studio owner and parent has given her a wealth of experience which she is always happy to share with everyone at DFX.

Louise received the highest Jazz exam mark in New Zealand in 1994. Louise has sat and passed numerous exams in the AJDA jazz and tap syllabi, the BBDS hip hop syllabi, and the BAL ballet syllabi. Louise is a fully qualified registered BBO ballet teacher, qualified AJDA jazz teacher, a qualified Acrobatic Arts teacher and a certified Progressing Ballet Technique teacher.

Louise has been teaching for 25 years, putting thousands of dancers through jazz, ballet, tap, hip hop and contemporary exams, with a number of students receiving top marks in the country. Louise has been a mentor/teacher and trained several teachers across all genres, many of those teachers are past or current members of the DFX faculty.

Louise is married to Luke, they have two children, Millie and Ashton. Millie is often found up at DFX enjoying her classes and being involved in the Competition Squad.

Louise is the Co-Director of the American Jazz Dance Affiliation, the syllabus that we follow for jazz, tap and contemporary exams, which allows Louise to mentor studio owners, be involved in the syllabus work, and examine students around New Zealand.

Louise owned Dance Effects for 23 years until recently selling the studio to Emily Marama, a long time DFX student. She is now looking forward to mentoring Emily through the changeover and seeing DFX grow and flourish even more. Louise will also be overseeing the DanceStep programme (for our student teachers) as well as coordinating the Pointe programme for our senior ballet students. We may even see her back in a class or 4 as a reliever!
