Every year we have an annual dance concert performed twice at Claudelands Arena held in November with the entire dance studio taking part.
Each class learns a dance which fits into the theme of the concert; the students learn the dance in class after exams in term 3 and polish it in term 4.
Each class hires a costume and the fee is approx $35-$50 per costume per student. Each student is also required to supply and wear make up for the performances.
Students must attend all lessons as teachers need to sort out and perfect the routine and formations. The weekend before the concert we have a dress rehearsal (in costume) on Saturday and Sunday at the Studio.
The week leading up to the concert we have practices Monday-Thursday at the Studio running through the show – Act 1 is usually Monday & Wednesday, Act 2 is usually Tuesday & Thursday.
The weekend of the concert we have a full dress rehearsal (costume & make up) on Saturday & Sunday then a performance Sunday night at 5.00pm with prizegiving to follow (approx 2.5 hours). Our second show is on Monday evening at 7.00pm. Pre schoolers are allowed to leave as soon as they have performed but can stay to join in for the finale and be on stage for prizegiving on the Sunday show if they wish.
Each junior class needs parent helpers to stay with them in the dressing room and keep them occupied. They have the opportunity to go into the audience to watch the rest of the show when their class has performed.
Family and friends can buy tickets from ‘Ticketek’ to watch the fantastic performance!
As a parent please make sure your child attends all lessons and all rehearsals, pays the costume hire fee, and reads all notices regarding times and extra rehearsals for the concert.
We have a professional photographer and professional videographer come and take photos and video the show. Photos are usually ready to order the week after the concert, DVDs need to be ordered and paid for by the Wednesday prior to the concert weekend and will be available to be collected at our Christmas Party.
This is a very exciting part of the year for students, teachers and parents involved, which obviously requires a lot of hard work and time behind the scenes. If you are able and willing to help out before the concert or on the concert weekend please offer your help.
