General Info

Every year we have 2 annual dance concerts

Our Junior show is performed twice at Southwell Theatre (1 morning and 1 afternoon show on the same day in mid November) dancers learn the routine during normal class time from the middle of term 3 and there are no extra rehearsals. Costumes are approx. $50-$65 and are kept by the dancers. Classes in the Southwell show are preschool and beginner jazz and ballet non-exam.

Our other concert is performed twice at Claudelands Arena later in November (Saturday evening and Sunday Matinee shows) all exam classes (including selected Acro classes/students) and open Hip hop and open contemporary are in this show.

Each class learns a dance which fits into the theme of the concert; the students learn the dance in class after exams in term 3 and polish it in term 4.

Each class purchases a costume and the fee is approx $50-$75 per costume per student. Each student is required to supply and wear make-up for the performance.

Students must attend all lessons as teachers need to sort out and perfect the routine and formations.

The weekend before the concert we have a dress rehearsal (in costume) at the DFX Studio and the week leading up to the concert we have practices Monday-Thursday at the Studio running through the show – Act 1 is usually Monday & Wednesday, Act 2 is usually Tuesday & Thursday (Claudelands show classes only)

The weekend of the concert we have a full dress rehearsal (costume & make up) on Saturday & Sunday then a performance Sunday night at 6pm. Prizegiving follows the Sunday show. We also have a Monday night show at 7pm. Pre schoolers are allowed to leave as soon as they have performed.

Each junior class needs parent helpers to stay with them in the dressing room and keep them occupied. They get the opportunity to go into the audience to watch the rest of the show when their class has performed.

Family and friends can buy tickets from ‘Ticketek’ to watch the fantastic performance!

As a parent please make sure your child attends all lessons and all rehearsals, pays the costume hire fee, and reads all notices regarding times and extra rehearsals for the concert.

We have a professional photographer and professional videographer come and take photos and video the show. Photos are usually ready to order the week after the concert, DVDs are ordered just before the concert and collected at our Christmas Party.

This is a very exciting part of the year for students, teachers and parents involved, which obviously requires a lot of hard work and time behind the scenes. If you are able and willing to help out before the concert or on the concert weekend please offer your help.
